Zero leakage metal seated severe service ball valves for LMEL’s iron ore slurry pipeline

CHALLENGE:

To provide highly engineered valves capable of withstanding one of the most demanding applications in the mining sector — iron ore slurry transport — ensuring zero leakage, long-term durability, and reliable performance under abrasive and high-pressure conditions.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES designed and manufactured 65 metal seated severe service ball valves — up to 18” and 1500 lbs — for LMEL’s 85 km slurry pipeline that connects the Surjagarh iron ore mine with the Konsari steel plant. Some of these valves were hydraulically operated. Drawing on decades of experience in severe service applications and a strong track record in India, AMPO has customized each valve’s design and material selection to guarantee optimal performance and a zero-leakage rate. This project reinforces AMPO’s leadership in providing tailor-made, robust solutions for the most extreme industrial environments.

AMPO’s largest-ever axial flow check 60”x64” valve for the Borouge 4 petrochemical complex

CHALLENGE:

To provide highly engineered axial flow check valves for the ethane cracker unit of a major petrochemical expansion, including the engineering and manufacturing of the largest axial valve ever produced by AMPO (60”x64”), while ensuring minimal pressure loss, zero emissions, and long-term reliability under severe operating conditions.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES designed and manufactured 74 cryogenic and non-cryogenic axial flow check valves for the Borouge 4 ethane cracker unit, ranging from 10” to 60”x64” and 150# to 1500#. The largest valve, a 60”x64” unit, was engineered with advanced simulations and calculations, custom-built springs, and rigorous functional testing and pre-assembly inspections to meet the project’s demanding requirements. AMPO’s axial flow check valve design provides zero emissions due to an absence of a bonnet or any other opening to the environment, prevents water hammer, ensures minimum pressure loss and a stable operation, operates in any orientation, ensures an immediate disc reaction and a rapid self-dampening response to noticeable flow reductions, is compact and lightweight and requires no maintenance due to its non-slam design, offering a long service life and optimal performance. AMPO worked closely with Technip Energies and Borouge to ensure the ideal valve configurations, contributing to the success of this strategic petrochemical development.

Surface MOV ball and globe valves for the Zuluf Tie-In Platform (ZTP) 5 upgrade

CHALLENGE:

To deliver highly engineered surface valves with enhanced corrosion and wear resistance for a critical tie-in platform upgrade, under a tight installation schedule during plant shutdown, while meeting Aramco’s demanding technical specifications and operational requirements.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES has designed, manufactured and delivered MOV ball and globe valves — up to 16” and 1500 lbs — with Inconel 625 weld overlays for enhanced durability in harsh conditions. All cladding operations were performed in-house at AMPO’s Spanish facilities using advanced welding robots and automated cladding cells, ensuring the highest levels of quality and performance. The valves will play a crucial role in fluid diversion and control at the Zuluf platform binders and will be installed during a plant shutdown, for which the material supply and readiness will be key. AMPO’s deep expertise in upstream surface applications and its proven track record in similar projects were key factors in gaining the trust of both Lamprell and Aramco for this high-impact upgrade.

Large-sized cryogenic and non-cryogenic valves for Pluto LNG Train 2

CHALLENGE:

To meet the technical complexity and extreme service conditions of Pluto LNG Train 2 by providing highly engineered valve solutions, including large-size valves (up to 38” and 2500 lbs), ensuring long-term reliability and safety in cryogenic and non-cryogenic applications.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES has supplied approximately 1,500 valves — including cryogenic and non-cryogenic ball, gate, globe, check, and axial flow check valves — up to 38” and 2500 lbs for the new LNG train at Pluto LNG, which will process Scarborough gas and produce 5 mtpa of LNG. AMPO’s prior successful performance in the first train, along with its deep expertise in low-carbon energy applications and LNG, led Woodside and EPC contractor Bechtel to rely once again on AMPO. The project highlights AMPO’s ability to deliver highly engineered and large sized valves tailored to the most demanding service conditions, reinforcing its leadership in global LNG infrastructure.

Cryogenic valves for E4Efficiency, an innovative energy efficiency project

CHALLENGE:

To contribute to an innovative project aimed at recovering residual cold energy from LNG regasification processes and integrating it into the largest urban cooling network in Southern Europe — while ensuring high performance, safety, and reliability under extreme cryogenic conditions.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES designed, manufactured, and delivered around 200 highly engineered cryogenic valves — both actuated and manual — tailored to the technical requirements of E4Efficiency’s project at the Barcelona LNG terminal. This groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with Enagás, Veolia, and the Barcelona City Council, recovers the inherent cold from LNG and injects it into Ecoenergies Barcelona, the largest urban cooling network in Southern Europe. The system will generate 131 GWh per year of local, sustainable, low-carbon and competitive energy, avoiding over 32,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Backed by over four decades of LNG expertise and a strong relationship with Enagás, AMPO was selected for its leadership and proven track record in cryogenic valve technology, helping to ensure the project’s success and long-term sustainability.

Thanks to this innovative technology developed and patented by E4Efficiency, the immense low-temperature energy is effectively harnessed, fostering proximity between LNG plants and major cold-consuming industries, such as cold storage facilities, ice factories, air separation plants, solid CO2 industries, and more. This approach helps these industries become more competitive and sustainable.

Tianjin Polycarbonate Complex (Tianjin, China)

CHALLENGE:

The 50-50 joint venture Sinopec Sabic Tianjin Petrochemical Co. Ltd (SSTPC) requested in 2019 the design and manufacture of several critical ball valves, some of them with the AMPO RCM valve condition monitoring system, with the aim to monitor the valves operation parameters which are really critical on the polycarbonate process.

Tianjin polycarbonate plant was developed by SABIC’s world-class advanced polycarbonate license, which was previously and successfully implemented on Sabic Cartagena plant in Spain. This complex has a production capacity of 260,000 polycarbonate tonnes per year.

SOLUTION:

AMPO POYAM VALVES produced and successfully delivered for this project diverse highly engineered isolation ball valves with double acting actuators and equipped by the AMPO RCM valve condition monitoring system, which is a predictive maintenance system patented by AMPO. The valves were installed on the most critical production lines of the polycarbonate complex.

This AMPO RCM (Remote Condition Monitoring) system developed by AMPO POYAM VALVES monitors valves’ torque/position and detects possible future failures that may occur in the valves installed at the plant, so that they can prevent unexpected plant shutdowns and increase efficiency. Moreover, the system ensures that the valves are continuously connected, so that AMPO supplies monitoring and analysis of the situation of the valves.
