Sustainability

Climate change and Environment

At AMPO we are fully aware that a production model that fails to respect the environment is not an option, which is what makes it essential for any development to be sustainable.

In line with this principle, AMPO is firmly committed to the environment, expressed through an environmental management system which has been implemented and certified under the terms of standard ISO 14001:2015, serving to comply with the legislation in force, and go a step further through goals for continuous improvement in environmental performance.

At AMPO we are committed to combating the climate emergency and are in step with the process of ecological transition and decarbonization on which the European Union has embarked. We are therefore making a comprehensive commitment to this process, firstly from the product perspective, by developing technical solutions to assist our clients in their process of decarbonization. And in parallel through advancements in the decarbonization of our own production operations.

At AMPO we are involved in the pursuit and development of new solutions, allowing society to progress towards the energy transition required for decarbonization. We are therefore members of the European Hydrogen Alliance and BH2C (the Basque Hydrogen Corridor), as well as being co-founders of the Energy Intelligence Center, a flagship institution based at a technology park and focused on Industry 4.0 and advanced manufacturing.

We are therefore fully committed to the development of a range of technologies serving to decarbonize the economy, and so have high technological value fluid handling solutions in the fields of hydrogen, carbon capture, biofuel and synthetic fuels.

One of our main priorities is to help reduce atmospheric emissions, which is why we have spent many years developing new technological solutions with the goal of achieving “zero emissions” solutions. We do so by developing our products in accordance with Ecodesign principles, guaranteeing low environmental impact solutions.

One of our key environmental goals is to advance towards the ecological transition and decarbonization of our own operations. Which is why AMPO has in place a Decarbonization Plan being deployed in 4 main working areas:

The most sustainable kW is the energy not consumed, making energy efficiency a particularly important factor in all AMPO projects, as demonstrated by the fact that one of our new manufacturing plants holds LEED GOLD sustainable building certification. The building includes measures to improve the site, save water, save energy, use more sustainable resources and materials and improve the quality of the interior atmosphere. AMPO is moreover equipped with other geothermal exchange installations.

Meanwhile, AMPO has undertaken energy audits to put in place its Energy Efficiency Action Plan, establishing the main operational focuses based on minute analysis and continuous monitoring of electricity, climate control, compressed air, lighting and water consumption.

Reduced fossil fuel consumption is another form of decarbonization being tackled by AMPO through the electrification of some of its processes.

Renewable energy will likewise be a key factor in the process of decarbonization, while furthermore providing a degree of energy autonomy. One of AMPO’s goals is therefore gradually to increase its internal electrical generation capacity.

Transport is among the activities generating the greatest volume of greenhouse gases. To minimize these emissions as far as possible, AMPO has a Mobility Plan in place, including measures to encourage and promote active and sustainable mobility.

AMPO is committed to designing more sustainable processes and products so as to optimize the use of resources in manufacturing its solutions. One of its goals is to optimize the solutions that it designs and manufactures, which involves environmental improvements throughout the product life-cycle. Along with a commitment to optimize this life-cycle, hence our maintenance, repair and retroffiting services for the solutions installed in plant delivered via the AMPO SERVICE team.

In terms of the managing waste, this is segregated to prioritize internal reuse wherever possible, in line with the circular economy philosophy, followed by external reuse through an authorized waste center.

AMPO has a 6,800 m2 green roof on one of its industrial units, which serves to absorb CO2, reduce the heat island effect, reduce environmental impact, etc. while also helping to protect local biodiversity.
