AMPO POYAM VALVES is currently designing and manufacturing more than 3,000 severe service gate, globe and check valves for Duqm Refinery in Oman. This refinery is a joint venture between Oman Oil Company (OOC) and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) and due to the strategic maritime location of the plant, being in the path of international shipping lines in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, it will ease the process of transport in and out of the region.
The consortium comprised by Tecnicas Reunidas and Daewoo were awarded the Engineering, Construction and Procurement contract for the development of the Process Units of the refinery. AMPO POYAM VALVES has a long history of close collaboration with Tecnicas Reunidas and that is why the EPC has again relied in the Spanish valve manufacturer to design and develop more than 3,000 gate, globe and check valves up to 20” for the several units within the refinery. Some of them will be moreover high pressure Y pattern globe valves (2500 lbs pressure seal design valves). Whole those severe service valves are being carefully tailored considering the demanding quality requirements in order to obtain maximum reliability for long and trouble-free service life under heavy-duty operation.
Once Duqm refinery is completed, which is estimated to cost $15bn, it will have a capacity to process around 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day and it will focus on diesel, jet fuel, naphtha and LPG as its primary products. The refinery comprises naphtha hydro-treating, catalytic reform, isomerization, vacuum distillation, FCCU, delayed coking, hydrocracking, LPG treating and Sulphur recovery units.
With more than 55 years of experience in severe service and high-pressure service valve design and manufacturing, AMPO POYAM VALVES expects to continue collaborating hand in hand with Tecnicas Reunidas and Daewoo on the development of this megaproject in Oman.
With the achievement of this new milestone, AMPO strengths its presence in the refining industry and reinforces its collaboration with Tecnicas Reunidas and Daewoo, as well as with the end users Oman Oil Company (OOC) and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI).
