AMPO POYAM VALVES has been awarded a contract to supply highly engineered cryogenic ball valves for the Ruwais LNG project, one of the most significant lower-carbon LNG developments currently under construction in the Middle East.
Ruwais LNG is located in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, and is being developed by ADNOC. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was awarded to Technip Energies, leading a joint venture (TJN RUWAIS JV) together with JGC and NMDC Energy. The plant will comprise two natural gas liquefaction trains with a combined LNG production capacity of 9.6 Mtpa. Unlike conventional facilities, Ruwais LNG will run on electric-driven motors rather than gas turbines, powered by clean energy, making it the first LNG export facility in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to operate on clean power and one of the lowest carbon-intensity LNG plants in the world. The project will more than double ADNOC’s LNG production capacity, aligning with growing global gas demand and the industry’s shift towards decarbonization.
AMPO POYAM VALVES’ scope covers cryogenic ball valves from 3″ to 24”, to be installed across the onshore LNG liquefaction facilities of the two electrically driven trains. The order currently in production comprises more than 600 cryogenic ball valves.
AMPO has been designing and manufacturing cryogenic ball valves since 1986, and this nearly four-decade track record was a key factor in securing the award. Over the years, this expertise has positioned AMPO as a supplier of choice for some of the world’s most demanding LNG developments, from major liquefaction and export terminals along the U.S. Gulf Coast, Qatar and Australia to regasification facilities in Asia and Europe, and now for one of the flagship lower-carbon projects in the Middle East. This broad and diverse installed base allows AMPO POYAM VALVES to draw on decades of accumulated engineering knowledge in cryogenic service, delivering valves designed to perform reliably under the most extreme temperature and operating conditions LNG applications demand.
This new contract reinforces AMPO’s long-standing position as a worldwide leader in cryogenic valve technology for the LNG industry, further strengthening its presence in one of the world’s most strategically important energy regions and supporting ADNOC’s drive towards a lower-carbon future for LNG production.
