Overlay Technologies

AMPO’s firm commitment to high-performance products results in the very best overlay technologies and solutions:

  • Our advanced technologies and high productivity allow AMPO to perform all types of overlay using different processes, on any type of material and with the fastest possible turnarounds, using special materials.
  • AMPO offers different types of overlay for components according to the desired properties and the size, pressure, temperature and material.
  • Depending on the properties provided by the overlay, AMPO offers corrosion protection solutions (ORC – Overlay Resistance Corrosion), FBE (Fusion-Bonded Epoxy) solutions as well as overlays to combat wear (Hardfacing).

Corrosion-resistant overlays (CRO)

In terms of corrosion protection overlays, AMPO has a full range of overlay materials available according to the required needs, including all types of stainless steel, nickel-based alloys such as Pure Nickel, Inconel 625, Hastelloy, Incoloy 825, Colmoloy, Copper-Nickel, etc. AMPO can also provide the very latest technology to apply these materials by means of different fully automated welding processes: GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding). All designed and optimized to provide the optimal overlay with the lowest possible thermal input, using technology such as CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) for GMAW, or hot wire for GTAW.

Hard-facing overlays (HFO)

We have a number of special processes for overlays to protect against wear. High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) for very high hardness overlays (chromium carbide and tungsten carbide) and automated welding processes such as PTA (Plasma Transfer Arc), GTAW, GMAW and FCAW. The latter processes are used to provide cobalt-based alloys such as Stelite or Ultimate, and martensitic stainless steels (13% Cr). This versatility in terms of processes and materials serves to provide different degrees of hardness, from values in excess of 1000 HV10 for HVOF overlays, to levels of 354 HV10 in 13% Cr for steel overlays.

All our welding procedures and welders have qualifications confirmed by accredited laboratories and issued by entities certified under the most demanding codes and standards (ASME IX, EN 15614-7, EN 9606-1, EN 14732, CE marking, UKCA marking)

FBE (Fusion-Bonded Epoxy) solutions

As well as the aforementioned overlays, we also use what is known as FBE (Fusion-Bonded Epoxy). This overlay serves to protect plant pipelines against corrosion in aggressive environments, as well as providing enhanced properties for valve operation at high temperature, protecting equipment against mechanical damage, abrasion wear, etc. This overlay also adheres perfectly to interior surfaces.

Our technological services and associate research centers work in close collaboration in all our projects to design specific treatments, such as: plasma nitriding, mechanical overlays and PVD overlays.
