AMPO POYAM VALVES APPLIES FSI MODELLING IN THEIR VALVES DESIGN

Industrial valves are designed for extreme conditions and increasingly demanding applications. AMPO POYAM VALVES has 55 years of experience in the design and development of severe service valves that require a careful design to ensure the reliability of their valves.

Numerical modelling plays an essential role in valve design. Structural simulations ensure the integrity of the valve components under extreme conditions, as well as a correct internal and external sealing performance. An independent analysis of the structural and the fluid domains may not be representative when a high interaction of both domains occurs. Such limitations may be addressed by using Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) modelling techniques.

One-way FSI modelling considers that one domain (fluid or structure) is affected by the results calculated on the other, for example, one-way coupling simulations are appropriate to model valve heating and cooling processes.

Two-way FSI modelling considers the reciprocal effect between each other. An example is the valve maneuvering analysis along time: the structure of the valve deforms or displaces under the pressure exerted by the fluid or combined with an external actuator, and the fluid must consequently adapt to the modified geometrical domain. Other cases can be the analysis of the watertightness, the analysis of services with solids in suspension, etc.

At AMPO, we are aware that in order to provide customized solutions to our customers’ needs, these types of tools offer added value. Therefore, our innovation team applies FSI modeling techniques during the design phase of the valves according to the service requirements.
