AMPO POYAM VALVES WILL SUPPLY THROUGH CONDUIT DOUBLE EXPANDING GATE VALVES FOR THE AKM FIELD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN INDONESIA
AMPO POYAM VALVES has been selected to supply 14 Through Conduit Double Expanding Gate Valves, including 8 manually operated and 6 motor-operated (MOV) units, for the AKM Field Development Project, located in the Kasuri Block, West Papua, Indonesia. The valves will be installed on the topside structures of the Asap, Merah and Kido (AMK) fields, with delivery scheduled for Q1 2027.
The Kasuri Block spans 3,534 sq km onshore the Bomberai Peninsula, immediately adjacent to the offshore Tangguh gas field. The block comprises the Asap, Merah and Kido structures, with total gas production expected to reach 180-200 MMcf/d and estimated field production of 330 MMcf/d. The first plan of development will draw on 1.7 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves from the Roabiba formation, feeding gas to Indonesia’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. In line with the Indonesian government’s drive to develop the petrochemical industry in West Papua, part of this gas is planned to supply a future petrochemical plant in the Teluk Bintuni area.
The project is being developed for Genting Oil, as end user, with PT. Meindo Elang Indah acting as EPC contractor. AMPO POYAM VALVES supported PT. Meindo Elang Indah throughout the valve selection and design phase of the project.
DOUBLE BLOCK AND BLEED (DBB) & DOUBLE ISOLATION AND BLEED (DIB) IN A SINGLE VALVE
The AMPO POYAM valves that will be supplied for this project are based on AMPO’s Double Expanding Gate (DEG) design with threaded seats, the preferred solution when Double Block and Bleed (DBB) or Double Isolation and Bleed (DIB) functionality is required within a single valve body. Each seat is self-energizing and mechanically activated, meaning the sealing function does not depend on internal pressure, unlike ball valves and slab gate valves, which rely on the piston effect to activate their seats.
The design is fully metal to metal, with no elastomer or thermoplastic gaskets. The dynamic sealing surfaces between seats and gates are hard-faced with tungsten carbide and specially finished to maintain a tight shut-off even under high pressure and in the presence of dirty or abrasive process media, without the need to inject any sealant compound.
The threaded seats maintain firm, permanent contact with the body and wedges, guaranteeing metal tightness, and preventing solid particles from becoming trapped between sealing surfaces. This construction also provides greater resistance to external loads, such as pipe bending.
The valves will undergo FAT/TSO testing in accordance with API 6D and API 598 in AMPO, with bi-directional DBB and DIB-1 qualification on both seats, and Fire Safe certification as per API 6FA.
This project reinforces AMPO POYAM VALVES’ active engineering support during the design and valve selection phase, together with its flexibility in delivery lead times for special materials, key factors behind the customer’s decision to choose AMPO as its valve supplier. The award also reflects AMPO’s growing track record and strong positioning in upstream and topside applications, where reliability and tight shut-off performance are critical.
