AMPO POYAM VALVES HAS SUPPLIED HIPPS BALL VALVES FOR QATAR’S NORTH FIELD PRODUCTION SUSTAINABILITY (NFPS) OFFSHORE PROJECT

AMPO POYAM VALVES supplied a complete set of highly engineered HIPPS ball valve solutions several months ago for the NFE – North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Offshore Project, a major offshore gas production development located in the North Field, offshore Qatar. The project forms part of Qatar’s broader strategy to ensure the long-term sustainability and expansion of its gas production capacity. Within this strategic offshore development, QatarEnergy and SAIPEM selected AMPO POYAM VALVES to provide key valve solutions for a highly demanding safety application.

The scope of supply included four 14×12” Class 2500 HIPPS valves, equipped with pneumatic actuators. These top entry on-off ball valves feature a fast-closing time of just 0.5 seconds, a solution developed by AMPO’s engineering team to deliver maximum safety, integrity, and responsiveness in high-pressure environments. These valves form part of a HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System), a redundant safety system designed to protect the pipeline in overpressure scenarios, preventing damage both upstream and downstream.

A particularly demanding phase of the project involved the qualification of the complete HIPPS package. As part of this process, a comprehensive iFAT (Integrated Factory Acceptance Test) was successfully carried out at AMPO’s facilities in Idiazabal, in the presence of the end user, to verify the correct integration and performance of the entire HIPPS system. In addition to AMPO’s valves, the test covered pressure sensors, actuator control panels, a PLC control cabinet, and a mechanical manifold for switching operating modes, highlighting AMPO’s ability to manage complex testing and qualification procedures in-house.

This project also highlights AMPO’s strong technological capabilities through its Integrated Smart Solutions (ISS) team, an area in which the company has developed extensive expertise in the design, manufacturing and integration of complete systems.
