AMPO OPENS A NEW PLANT IN INDIA

AMPO celebrated on June 6 the opening ceremony of its new facilities in India with the participation of diverse basque government representatives and institutions.  

The opening ceremony began at 16.00 pm with a traditional Indian welcome, and after that, a manufacturing plant tour was held.  The ceremony was attended by the Deputy of Economy of the Council of Gipuzkoa, Ms. Ainhoa Aizpuru, the Director of SPRI, Mr. Alexander Arriola, representing the Basque Government, the Economy Director of Gipuzkoa Council, Mr. Antton Tomasena, the International Department Director at SPRI, Ms. Miren Madinabeitia, the Director of SPRI INDIA, Mr. Hemant Agarwal and finally, the Internationalization Director of the Commerce Chamber of Gipuzkoa, Ms. Amaia Ferro.

AMPO is a reference due to its internationalization level and also an international leader in stainless steel and high alloy castings as well as highly engineered valves for the most severe applications and industries. Continuing with the implementation of its investment plan, and thanks to the immense work done by all the people who have been part of the more than 50 years of the cooperative’s history, AMPO has opened this week a new plant dedicated to the manufacture of valves In Coimbatore, in the state of Tamil Nadu (India). AMPO has made an investment of 13 million euros for the design and the construction of these new facilities at India, and this will allow AMPO to expand subsidiary’s manufacturing capacity.

After the institutional ceremony, on June 7 AMPO presented its new AMPO INDIA facilities, 100% owned by the cooperative, to 20 Global Customers such as SHELL, RELIANCE, INDIAN OIL CORPORATION, TECNICAS REUNIDAS, FLUOR, TECHNIP, etc. From now on AMPO will be able to produce up to 72” size valves in AMPO India, which is an exact copy of the Spanish plant. For that they count with the most advanced equipment technologies of the market, with cranes up to 50 tons, test benches for 2500# valves, etc.

The new plant comprises an area of approximately 15,000 square meters and includes valve assembly, testing, painting and packing facilities. AMPO launched in 2009 a valve manufacturing plant in this country in order to assist with their customer’s demands and requirements, enabling them to offer the best solutions and alternatives within the market. They started with a staff of 20 people and today there work approximately 240 people in AMPO INDIA. In April, the construction of this new plant was completed, beginning with the manufacturing activity.
