AMPO’s largest-ever axial flow check 60”x64” valve for the Borouge 4 petrochemical complex
CHALLENGE:
To provide highly engineered axial flow check valves for the ethane cracker unit of a major petrochemical expansion, including the engineering and manufacturing of the largest axial valve ever produced by AMPO (60”x64”), while ensuring minimal pressure loss, zero emissions, and long-term reliability under severe operating conditions.
SOLUTION:
AMPO POYAM VALVES designed and manufactured 74 cryogenic and non-cryogenic axial flow check valves for the Borouge 4 ethane cracker unit, ranging from 10” to 60”x64” and 150# to 1500#. The largest valve, a 60”x64” unit, was engineered with advanced simulations and calculations, custom-built springs, and rigorous functional testing and pre-assembly inspections to meet the project’s demanding requirements. AMPO’s axial flow check valve design provides zero emissions due to an absence of a bonnet or any other opening to the environment, prevents water hammer, ensures minimum pressure loss and a stable operation, operates in any orientation, ensures an immediate disc reaction and a rapid self-dampening response to noticeable flow reductions, is compact and lightweight and requires no maintenance due to its non-slam design, offering a long service life and optimal performance. AMPO worked closely with Technip Energies and Borouge to ensure the ideal valve configurations, contributing to the success of this strategic petrochemical development.
