AMPO POYAM VALVES WILL SUPPLY CRITICAL VALVES FOR BP’S TANGGUH UBADARI CCUS PROJECT IN INDONESIA
AMPO POYAM VALVES has been selected to supply over 265 highly engineered gate, globe and check valves for the Tangguh Ubadari Compression and Carbon Capture (UCC) project, a landmark initiative in Indonesia’s energy and decarbonization efforts.
Project Overview
Located in Bintuni Bay, Papua Barat, Indonesia, the Ubadari project encompasses Ubadari field development, onshore compression, and the country’s first large-scale carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) scheme. Led by BP with partners including INPEX, Mitsubishi Corporation and others, the project aims to enhance gas recovery while injecting captured CO₂ back into underground reservoirs to reduce emissions and support Indonesia’s energy transition goals. The project represents a $7 billion investment in Indonesia’s energy infrastructure, expected to be operational by 2028. Construction of the project began in August 2025, with Saipem handling offshore works and JGC managing onshore facilities.
AMPO’s Key Role in Indonesia’s First Large-Scale CCUS Project
AMPO POYAM VALVES will provide severe service valves for both onshore and offshore sections, primarily enabling the compression and safe transportation of CO₂ from capture to storage. The solutions include critical high-pressure gate, globe and check valves made from special materials such as ASTM A351/A351M CK3MCUN, ASTM A995/A995M GR4A and others, specifically engineered to handle dense, fluid-like CO₂ efficiently in pipeline transport.
Leveraging decades of experience supplying highly engineered valves for absorption, adsorption and other CO2 separation technologies in the refinery and chemical sectors, AMPO advised on optimal valve selection to meet the demanding operational conditions of this pioneering project. BP, which maintains a limited list of approved vendors for such critical applications, selected AMPO POYAM VALVES for its proven expertise in high-pressure, high-performance solutions and its commitment to supporting decarbonization initiatives.
With its involvement in the Tangguh Ubadari CCUS project, AMPO is not only providing critical and highly engineered solutions for a landmark low-carbon initiative but also actively contributing to the global energy transition. By delivering highly engineered valves for CCUS that enable safe and efficient carbon capture and storage, AMPO is helping make sustainable energy a reality—truly “Making a new energy era possible.”
