AMPO POYAM VALVES PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN SAMARCO’S GERMANO MINE OPERATIONAL RENEWAL, DELIVERING SEVERE SERVICE BALL VALVES AND HYDRAULIC POWER UNITS (HPUs) FOR THIS MINING PROJECT IN BRAZIL

AMPO POYAM VALVES has successfully supplied and installed 82 highly engineered severe service valves, along with 2 hydraulic power units (HPUs), at the Momento 2 Filtragem Fase 2 project at Samarco’s Germano Mine in Mariana, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Samarco is a Brazilian mining company with an integrated production chain in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, producing iron ore primarily for the steel industry.

The Germano Mine, part of the Germano-Alegria Complex, is a key iron ore mining project in Southeast Brazil. This project marks a significant milestone in Samarco’s operational renewal, with the reopening of one concentrator and a new filtration plant that will allow 80% of tailings to be stacked dry, demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainable and safe operations. AMPO’s severe service valves, together with our HPUs as part of our Integrated Smart Solutions (ISS), have been pivotal in enabling these improvements in the new filtration plant, enhancing both safety and efficiency in tailings management.

Severe Service Ball Valves and Integrated Smart Solutions for Critical Mining Operations

AMPO POYAM VALVES delivered a complete solution, including 82 severe service ball valves up to 14” and two Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) to operate the valves, fully engineered and manufactured in-house. All ball valve flow paths and closure elements were coated with chromium carbide using HVOF technology, ensuring superior resistance to wear in severe service conditions. The HPUs, entirely designed and manufactured by AMPO’s R&D team, showcase our Integrated Smart Solutions approach – where intelligence meets valves – providing automated, reliable operation in severe service applications. AMPO SERVICE also supported the on-site installation and commissioning of the equipment, as well as the training of Samarco’s maintenance operators, ensuring optimal performance and long-term reliability.
