AMPO POYAM VALVES SUPPLIES HIGHLY ENGINEERED HYPERCENTRIC BALL VALVES FOR TCO’S METERING STATION UPGRADE IN KAZAKHSTAN
AMPO POYAM VALVES has successfully supplied highly engineered hypercentric triple offset ball valves for a strategic project at TCO (Tengizchevroil) in Kazakhstan, a leading company in Kazakhstan that produces oil, gas and associated products that fuels the modern economy. The project involved the replacement of metering station valves installed in critical metering skids, where reliability, accuracy and long-term performance are essential under severe operating conditions.
As the end user, TCO required valves capable of operating under severe service conditions, including high H₂S content and significant erosion challenges. In addition, easy field maintainability and long-term reliability were essential requirements to minimize operational costs and downtime. To meet these needs, AMPO supported the client during the valve selection process, proposing its Hypercentric triple-offset ball valve technology as the optimal solution for this demanding application. This solution combines a non-contact design with outstanding performance in harsh environments, making it particularly suitable for this type of severe service application.
In total, AMPO supplied 82 Hypercentric ball valves, size 8”, featuring Inconel overlay and equipped with electric actuators. The valves fully comply with the API 6D standard and successfully passed PR2 testing, ensuring their reliability and safety in critical service conditions. A key highlight of the project was the extensive testing programme. The Hypercentric ball valves were tested at TCO’s facilities by a third-party inspector, achieving excellent results. These tests further validated the 6,000-cycle endurance test previously performed at AMPO’s facilities and certified by DNV, reinforcing the robustness and durability of the solution.
Beyond the product itself, AMPO’s local presence in Kazakhstan played a strategic role in supporting this project. AMPO Kazakhstan, located in Atyrau, is a manufacturing and service hub created to become a long-term strategic partner for Kazakhstan and the Caspian region. The facility focuses on supporting local customers through advanced service capabilities, technology transfer and critical valve maintenance services for key projects in the country.
From a technical perspective, the AMPO POYAM Hypercentric Triple Offset Ball Valve expands the field of applications beyond conventional designs, offering unmatched versatility and durability. Its no rising-stem design allows installation in both vertical and horizontal positions, providing a clear advantage in metering and reduction skids or other space-constrained installations. The friction-free seat design ensures that contact between the ring and the seat occurs only at the final stage of closing, significantly reducing wear in dirty or contaminated services. In addition, the independent lower trunnion design prevents particle accumulation, helping to keep operating torque low even in severe media conditions. The forged body design enables manufacturing in virtually any required material, either solid or cladded, making the valves suitable for highly corrosive environments as well as extreme temperature applications. Combined with the non-contact design and easy field maintenance, these features make the Hypercentric ball valve an ideal solution for extensive cycling services such as adsorption units (PSA, TSA, molecular sieve), dehydration units, switching valves, meter isolation, product segregation, suction and discharge lines, hot oil and heat transfer applications.
With this project, AMPO POYAM VALVES not only demonstrates the high performance and reliability of its valve technology, but also reinforces its commitment to local support, technology transfer and long-term partnership in Kazakhstan and the Caspian region.
