AMPO POYAM VALVES STRENGTHENS ITS PRESENCE IN QATAR’S NORTH FIELD EAST LNG EXPANSION PROJECT WITH THE SUPPLY OF OVER 1,400 HIGHLY ENGINEERED VALVES, INCLUDING HIPPS SOLUTIONS

AMPO POYAM VALVES is proud to be part of the Qatar North Field East (NFE) LNG Expansion Project, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments. The project is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, on the northeast coast of the Qatar Peninsula, and is led by QatarEnergy. The EPC contractor for the LNG storage and loading facilities is Samsung C&T.
With a total investment value of USD 28.75 billion, the NFE project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity by 33 million tons per year. Covering an area of 2.7 million square meters—equivalent to 58 Tokyo Dome stadiums—and employing over 45,000 workers at the peak of construction, this expansion will significantly strengthen Qatar’s position as one of the world’s leading LNG producers.
AMPO POYAM VALVES has supplied more than 1,400 highly engineered valves, including manual and on-off ball valves, as well as gate, globe, and check valves in both cryogenic and non-cryogenic designs. These valves will be installed in critical sections of the project, such as LNG loading systems, process and storage piping, and marine infrastructure (QNF Marine Package). Their main purpose is to control LNG and other industrial fluids flow, ensuring safe and efficient operations in loading, storage, and processing systems. Among them, a set of ESDVs (Emergency Shut Down Valves), SDVs (Shut Down Valves), and BDVs (Blow Down Valves) used for safety and process control applications stands out due to their technological complexity and safety relevance.
AMPO worked in close collaboration with the customer throughout the design and engineering of all valves supplied for the project, ensuring optimal performance and reliability across every application. Within this scope, special attention was given to the HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System) valves, for which AMPO provided in-depth technical support and customized engineering solutions. These on-off ball valves, rated Class 600 and size 20”, feature a fast closing time of just 0.5 seconds, a design developed by AMPO’s engineering team to deliver maximum safety, integrity, and responsiveness in high-pressure environments.
A particularly demanding part of the project involved the complete HIPPS (High Integrity Pressure Protection System). As part of the project qualification, a comprehensive IFAT (Integrated Factory Acceptance Test) was successfully carried out at AMPO’s facilities in Idiazabal, with the presence of the end user, verifying the correct integration and performance of the entire HIPPS system, and highlighting AMPO’s ability to manage complex testing and qualification procedures in-house.
The customer’s decision to rely again on AMPO POYAM VALVES is based on their excellent experience during previous project phases, as well as the proven reliability and service consistently provided by AMPO’s team.
At present, the valves are being installed at site, marking another milestone in AMPO’s contribution to large-scale global energy projects.
